Fletcher Homes records donated to Shropshire Archives

Unique records from Fletcher Homes, one of Shropshire’s leading building companies, have been donated to the council’s Shropshire Archives service.

The records dating back to the 1930s record the company’s development in Shrewsbury and Wellington, including its work on private housing and civic buildings.  The company minutes are a particularly rare survival and include many interesting details such as progress on building projects, suppliers of fittings, and changes to sizes and shapes of rooms.  These details will all be fascinating for people now living in the houses.

The donors, Nick and Helen Fletcher, who both worked for the family firm, found the papers in their attic when moving and didn’t want to throw them away.  They said:

“It is our pleasure to donate these papers to the Archives as a lasting record of our family firm and its place in the history of Shrewsbury and Wellington.”

Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibilities for Tourism and Culture said:

“We are very pleased to accept these Fletcher Homes records, this will be of great value to our already treasured archives.  I would like to thank Nick and Helen Fletcher for their generous contribution which I’m sure will benefit local people and historians for generations to come.”
