Young people raise £350 for Hope House

The Care Council Crew (CCC), a group of young people aged 15 to 19 who are looked after by Shropshire Council, have raised £350 for Hope House.

The fundraising was part of the ‘young apprentice of the year’ competition started by the Shropshire Youth Association (SYA) to encourage youth groups across the county to fundraise for a charity of their choice.

After choosing Hope House, the CCC used a variety of fundraising methods in the past year to raise as much as possible for other disadvantaged young people in Shropshire.  A member of the CCC has seen first-hand the work of Hope House as they provide respite care for their foster sister.

The CCC also has close links with the Corporate Parenting Board, a group of councillors and senior managers.  The CCC meets with the Corporate Parenting Board four times a year to team review services and outcomes for children in care.  The joint aim is to improve provision for children looked after by Shropshire Council. 

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for safeguarding and corporate parenting, said:

“We are absolutely delighted that the Care Council Crew have raised this amount of money for Hope House.  They have worked extremely hard over the last year to raise funds for this worthy charity.  It is very heartwarming to see these young people helping other vulnerable children and young people.” 

The efforts of the Care Council Crew were rewarded at the SYA Celebration evening where they were presented with an award for raising the most amount of money in the competition.
