National Apprenticeship Week 2013
The sixth annual National Apprenticeship Week is taking place from Monday 11 March 2013 to Friday 15 March 2013.
A range of activities and celebrations are taking place across Shropshire during the week, to celebrate the impact they are having on individuals, business and the economy in Shropshire and across England.
One activity is SBC Training presenting a cheque to Hope House Children’s’ Hospice for funds raised by apprentices during a fashion show which they organised in 2012.
Large numbers of young people are now looking for apprentice vacancies in Shropshire.
Janine Vernon, manager for lifelong learning, said:
“It’s great to see such interest in apprenticeship applications. It shows that the interest amongst young people is continuing to rise as apprenticeships provide a young person with an opportunity to raise their skills levels and compete for jobs in the market place.”
Shropshire County Training will be undertaking an online campaign to recruit new employer vacancies for lots of budding apprentices, along with other providers who will also be undertaking recruitment campaigns.
Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for economic growth and prosperity, is supportive of the activities taking place, and said:
“Apprenticeships are good for business; hiring apprentices is a way of attracting new talent and developing a motivated and skilled workforce.”
